Start with the last known-good condition and ask what changed. More than one factor may be present, and the same symptom can have different causes.

What should you check first?

  1. Repeat pH using the approved sample point and method; record the time and units.

  4. Use the adopted range and product-label procedure; circulate and retest before another adjustment.

A reading is not a dosing order

Do not copy a universal dose from another vessel or product. Verify the test, actual water volume, product identity, operating target, protective equipment, and required response. Then follow the exact label and governing procedure.

What can the observation not prove?

High pH does not prove the cause of a sanitizer or scale problem and cannot specify an acid dose. The wider water balance and equipment evidence are required.

Keep the original result, repeat result, method, sample point, actual time, recent treatment, visible condition, equipment state, decision, and follow-up together. A record is most useful when it preserves uncertainty instead of quietly replacing it.
